‘Much of my work revolves around love, loss, kinship, community and belonging. I often make pictures with the people close to me, like this one of my dear friend Jackie. We were celebrating her 30th birthday; it was an exuberant night filled with love and joy. Using my camera to hold a significant moment in Jackie’s journey through time, I wanted to make an intimate and celebratory picture that reflected her spirit of kindness, beauty and strength.’
Katrin Koenning is an artist living on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne. Koenning’s practice is anchored in the pursuit of intimacy and interconnection, and she uses the camera to both create and chronicle her community.
