Star, 2026

Tace Stevens

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2026 Finalist

pigment photographic print (frame: 82.9cm x 56.4cm depth 3.6cm)

‘Although Star, my little sister, may need a carer for the rest of her life, she is one of the most caring people I know. She carries her own set of challenges that come from living with Autism and an intellectual disability, as well as responsibilities that come with being part of a big family. Having recently graduated Year 12, Star is stepping into a year of change in 2026. What I wanted to capture is the side of her that we see and love every day – her strength, tenderness and care. Here, she comforts our nephew who just woke up from sleep.’

Tace Stevens is a Noongar/Spinifex visual storyteller based in Boorloo/Perth, Western Australia. She uses photography and film to explore the world around her, and to better understand who she is as an Aboriginal woman.
