Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta Elder, activist and writer Margaret Tucker MBE (1904–1996) was a pivotal First Nations activist. Part of the Stolen Generations, she went on to become a leading figure in the Land Rights movement.
In the photograph on the left, Tucker sits with Rosslyn Johnson, sister of Jerrems’ close friend Ron Johnson, at a Christmas party. The photograph reveals the easy intimacy between the two women. Their hands nearly touch, and they appear amused as they watch something take place out of frame. Jerrems was adept at unobtrusively capturing the energy of a gathering, distilling quiet moments of intimacy between others.
