In producing concertina books, Jerrems seamlessly combined photographs into spooling arrangements to build dynamic narrative connections. Even as a student, Jerrems considered portraiture a powerful mode of expression and sought to celebrate her subjects’ character as multi-faceted and complex rather than singular or definitive. The cover of Jim Fields, a portrait describes Fields as ‘actor, model, singer, freak’.
National Gallery of Australia, Canberra. Gift of Mrs Joy Jerrems 1981.
