During their 2012 tour of the United Sates, The Australian Ballet dancers Brooke Lockett, Heidi Martin, Karen Nanasca and Halaina Hills performed as the infamous four cygnets in Graeme Murphy’s critically acclaimed Swan Lake, wearing costumes designed by Kristian Fredrikson.

Lisa Tomasetti photographed the dancers at the busy intersection of Lexington and 6th Avenue in New York City. In Tomasetti’s 2020 photobook, The Australian Ballet on the International Stage, Lockett recalled the challenges of such a shoot: ‘Imagine the hustle and bustle of New York, 4 Aussie ballerinas, and a photographer with the energy to stop traffic and pedestrians to get the shot.’
