National Photographic Portrait Prize 2023 Finalist
Marawa is a Los Angeles-based, 12-time Guinness World Record holding Hula Hoop Master and a very good friend. Marawa and I met while she was a student at the National Institute of Circus Arts and I was a photography student. Since then, we have collaborated for years, making bizarre photographs in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, LA, New York, Blackpool, London and Paris. This image was taken in Melbourne after not seeing each other during the pandemic. The reunion with my long-time collaborator and kindred spirit brought great joy. No one literally throws themselves into it like Marawa.
The exhibition is selected from a national field of entries, reflecting the distinctive vision of Australia's aspiring and professional portrait photographers and the unique nature of their subjects.
