Destination Dissociation, 2022

Perri Lawson

My piece is a self-portrait etching. My priority was to ensure an accurate expression, as the artwork is intended to depict melancholy. I added a gradient to the eyes to appear glazed-over. During the creation process I was in a state of neutrality, this motivating me to express this through the etching. The artwork tells an unfinished story; as the girl sits, staring blankly out the window of the train. It allows the viewer to apply this to themselves, personally answering questions such as 'Where is she going?'. Occasionally I return to the perspective of the girl on the train.
