National Photographic Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist
I have always sought subjects that have never been formally shot before. Jamie Dufton-Roddick was transitioning into Bianca Dufton-Roddick, a first for me as a photographer. I decided to capture Bianca in the style of fifties Hollywood, a time when female beauty was captured in a way that women adored and men admired. Bianca was a natural in front of the camera, completely comfortable in her 'new skin'. Bianca has had a long strenuous journey to find herself – she dealt with family violence within the strict patriarchy of her father's household – but through constant hardship she chose to evolve.
