National Photographic Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist
This photograph of Brad was taken about a fortnight into Melbourne's sixth lockdown. At this point the notion of space and time were elastic. We had forgotten where we were in the year, with the delineation between 2020 and 2021 blurring into a sea of rolling case numbers, and liveblog buttons teasing us with incremental updates. As we emerge from the novelty of the pandemic, we'll all be deciding on what to burn into the deep recesses of our memory. For me, it'll be this image – a cue to remind me of the existential smush of these interrupted years.
