Maria, 2022

This is a portrait of Maria Pia Mosquera, the Colombian-born Sydney-based award-winning exhibition designer and artist. She is a graduate of graphic design and illustration from the University of Canberra. The concept for this painting arose at a visit to her studio and was further developed through preliminary painting studies over several sittings. Maria's posture is relaxed and self-assured, while her outfit shows her sense of style and design. The national flower of Colombia, the 'Christmas Orchid', is used in the background to reference her cultural heritage.

Darling Portrait Prize 2022

The Darling Portrait Prize is a biennial national prize for Australian portrait painting honouring the legacy of Mr L Gordon Darling AC CMG (1921-2015). The winner receives a cash prize of $75,000.
