Darling Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist
I wanted to create a painting about living authentically. Vegan in a leather coat represents someone who says one thing and yet does another. The painting for me is about duplicity and hypocrisy. The desire for us all to live according to our core values and with honest self-reflection. I aimed to create tension in the face and body as the subject (me) points at the head and mind as it grapples with itself.
The Darling Portrait Prize is a biennial national prize for Australian portrait painting honouring the legacy of Mr L Gordon Darling AC CMG (1921-2015). The winner receives a cash prize of $75,000.
