Darling Portrait Prize 2022 Finalist
Avid art collector John Feitelson is a passionate supporter of the arts in Australia. He is the owner of Artist Profile magazine and Art Almanac.
I titled the painting Man with two lives because we have often discussed the fortuity of living two lives in one lifetime, even if some ghosts remain. The carpet represents the flourishing garden of his ever-sprouting harebrained ideas encircled among the menorah, an homage to his Jewish faith. Here he is bravely seated semi-nude in an Eero Saarinen chair with a copy of Artist Profile and the tiny espresso cup he served at our sitting.
The Darling Portrait Prize is a biennial national prize for Australian portrait painting honouring the legacy of Mr L Gordon Darling AC CMG (1921-2015). The winner receives a cash prize of $75,000.
