Doug Schofield grew up near Eden on the far south coast of New South Wales. I met Doug (after I moved to Sydney from regional South Australia) at University of New South Wales Art & Design, where we both now lecture and work. Depicted embracing a bouquet of native gum, Doug has a deep affinity with the Australian landscape and a passion for gardening that is expressed in his creative work. He wears an earring that was passed down to him from his mother. This work is a celebration of creative spirit and the unique connections we have to people and place.

Darling Portrait Prize 2020

The Darling Prize is a new biennial prize for Australian portrait painters, painting Australian sitters. The winner receives a cash prize of $75,000.
