Each year members of our Registration team select their favourite work to win the National Photographic Portrait Prize Art Handlers’ Award. The winner receives $2,000 cash from exhibition partner IAS Fine Art Logistics.

This year, Shelley Xue 阿谊 (ah Yi) 2024 has been selected the winner for the 2024 NPPP Art Handlers’ award.

The judges commented: ‘We were taken by the compositional strength of Xue’s image. The frosted glass is a potent visual device that here represents the veiling and disconnection between the subject and the photographer. We relate directly to the experience of Xue and her mother, finding this beautiful and poignant photograph could articulate the complex and bittersweet feelings of time and opportunities lost with the joy and excitement for future intimacies.’
