Those trees came back to me in my dreams
Those trees came back to me in my dreams, 2024 Joan Ross. Collection of N.Smith, Gadigal Country / Sydney

Celebrate the opening weekend of Joan Ross: Those trees came back to me in my dreams by joining contemporary artist Joan Ross in conversation with Curator Coby Edgar.

Hear about Ross’ practice and how she uses humour to interrogate colonisation and its ongoing impact on climate change, consumerism and greed. The panel will also discuss the curatorial rationale and how portraits from the Portrait Gallery’s collection have been selected and reframed to sit alongside Ross’ artworks.

Following the in conversation join us for light refreshments to celebrate the opening.

Joan Ross: Those trees came back to me in my dreams is on show from 24 August until 2 February 2025.

The show was curated collaboratively by Joan Ross, Coby Edgar and Emma Kindred, reflecting First Nations and non-First Nations perspectives on colonial narratives in the collection.
