Richard Humphry AO (b. 1939) was the managing director and CEO of Australian Stock Exchange Ltd from 1994 to 2004, during which period, in 1998, the ASX became the first exchange in the world to simultaneously demutualise and list on its own exchange. Humphry worked for ten years as a computer programmer in the public service before beginning his rise through the ranks to deputy secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Aboriginal Affairs in 1985, Victorian auditor-general in 1986-1988 and director-general of the NSW Premier’s Department from 1988 to 1994. Since leaving the public service he has served on the Financial Reporting Council; the Foreign Affairs Council and the Administrative Review Council. Having been the director of State Super Financial Services Ltd from 1992 to 2000, he was director of the Garvan Medical Research Foundation from 1997 to 2005 and served on the International Accounting Standards Board of Trustees in 2005. He has been deputy chair of the Zoological Parks Board of NSW since 1998, a director of HSBC Bank Australia since 2005, a director of BUPA Australia Holdings Pty Ltd since 2008 and a director of MBF Australia Group Ltd since 2004.
