During his short yet prolific career, Brew-Bevan has amassed an impressive portfolio of portraits of actors, sports people, celebrities and fashion designers prominent in contemporary Australian life. The exhibition Portraits to be held at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra is a selection of twelve images drawn from his extensive archive.

Magazines are a pervasive medium for placing images of people before us in everyday life. Peter Brew-Bevan’s work in this field demonstrates a capacity to come up with a fresh look without resorting to over-stated gimmickry’, said Director of the Portrait Gallery, Andrew Sayers.
Peter’s practice draws on his formal art background, giving his images a very distinctive ‘painterly’ quality - strongly demonstrated in one of his most recognizable portraits, that of actor Naomi Watts.
The photographic portraits that Brew-Bevan constructs are immediately arresting and thought-provoking with an elegant quality.
